Memories

As I look back on my childhood, I have fond memories of various moments that I think back on and wonder if that's how the moment actually went. After so many years of hearing the stories repeated, I sometimes wonder if things were added, forgotten, or even changed. An experience is also not just yours when someone else tells it, whether it's accurate or not. You have your perspective, and other people have theirs, which can lead to multiple versions of the same memory. My brother and I had the same experience as kids; we were swimming in the same pool and having fun when I began to drown. He ended up saving my life and almost drowned himself in doing so. We both have different stories of how we remember this moment. He thinks he saved the day, and that everyone was so worried about me and not him. I remember him helping me, but almost drowning me more at the time, and when we got out, everyone was worried about both of us. It's just interesting how stories of the past can change so easily, just depending on who is telling them.
